A few months ago I was asked by a professional academic recruiter to write about goal statement examples for graduate school. In my response, I suggested that it would be helpful if we could take a few minutes and look at goal statements in our everyday lives and see how they fit into the larger picture of who we are. What many people might not know is that many or most of the greatest human inventions were either accidental or spurred by a desire for something better or a vision of a better future. It’s amazing how many people today have goals that seem like they’re just on the tip of the tongue but are actually quite far away from realization.

Take, for example, your goals for college. How many times have you said that you want to go to a particular university or college and you’ve promised yourself that you’ll definitely make the commitment to attend? The same is true for goals for various aspects of life. For example, you might write a goal to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
